The basic theory of non-local elasticity was reviewed. Emphasis was placed on the difference between the non-local theory, and classical continuum mechanics. The concept of non-local interface residuals was introduced into the non-local theory. Using the concepts of non-local interface residuals and non-local constitutive equations, calculations were made of the non-local stresses that were due to an edge dislocation in the interface of a bi-material. The non-local stress distribution along an interface was quite different to the classical one. Instead of a singularity at the dislocation core, the non-local stress approach gave a finite value at the core. A maximum in the stress was also found near to the dislocation core.
