Membranes for hydrogen permeation were fabricated that were highly resistant to acids, chemically stable and economical. The TiN powder was milled for 0.5, 1, and 4h using a vibration mill, before undergoing spark plasma sintering. The material was characterized by using XRD, BET, and SEM. The hydrogen selectivity was measured by means of Sievert-type hydrogen permeation membrane equipment. The hydrogen permeability of a TiN-5wt%Ni membrane was found to be 7.8 x 10−8, 1.7 x 10−7 and 1.4 x 10−7mol/m.s.Pa1/2 at 473, 573 and 673K, respectively under an 0.2MPa H2 atmosphere.
