In order to compare plastic deformation and microstructural evolution behaviour deformation between equal channel angular pressing and forward extrusion processes, finite element analyses in associated with the mechanism of dislocation glide and cell formation were employed. It was found from the simulation results that the equal channel angular pressing process was superior to the forward extrusion process, in terms of strength, grain refinement and deformation homogeneity as well as repeatability due to the equal channels of entry and exit.
