The effect of the Hf/Ni ratio on the microstructures and hydrogen permeabilities of the Nb–Hf–Ni ternary alloys was studied in particular. The results demonstrated that with, the increasing Hf/Ni ratio, the quantity of the primary (Nb, Hf) phase increased; a new HfNi phase with higher Hf content appeared; the Φ value decreased except for alloys with the same Hf and Ni contents.
