A study was made of dislocations strain-induced during the epitaxial growth of YBa2Cu3O7-δ films on SrTiO3{010} substrates. From contrast analysis under different diffraction vectors, it was determined that dislocations with a[110] and [011] Burgers vectors were formed in (110) and (01¯1) planes, respectively. At the points of intersection, they reacted:
a[1¯10] + a[011] a[101]
to form a[101] segments in (010) planes. Formation of dislocations near to the free surface above a critical thickness minimized the total energy of the system. The dislocations glided into the film and substrate.
