An electron paramagnetic resonance study of vanadyl ions doped into ammonium selenate single crystals was carried out at room temperature. It was found that the VO2+ ion takes up an interstitial site. The spin Hamiltonian parameters obtained from the crystal rotations were g||=1.9576, g⊥=1.9889, A||=203G, A⊥=78G. An optical absorption study was also carried out to evaluate various bonding parameters. On the basis of these parameters the nature of bonding in the complex was analysed.
