While investigating the reaction of Si and C, using electron microprobe techniques, it was noted that, at 1500 to 1800C, the Si diffused into glassy C in a manner which was governed by bulk diffusion according to:
D (cm2/s) = 2.1 x 105exp[-125(kcal/mol)/RT]
