Using thermodynamic and kinetic arguments it was shown that an adsorbate of atomic hydrogen on graphene could only exist out of equilibrium due to limited desorption. It also desorbs around room temperature. The existence of ortho- and para-hydrogen-like pairs on the surface leads to hot molecular desorption.
