The intermetallic compound and nickel alloys containing manganese were prepared from high-purity nickel, manganese and aluminum by melting in an induction furnace under vacuum. The diffusion coefficients of manganese in Ni3Al were much lower than those in nickel, and the activation energy (381kJ/mol) of manganese in Ni3Al was higher than that of 272kJ/mol in nickel (figure 20). The nickel and aluminum atoms occupied α- and β-sites, respectively, in Ni3Al.
