Noting that the Ni3Al intermetallic compounds with the L12 ordered structure exhibited a positive temperature dependence of the yield stress over a finite temperature range, an examination was made here of the slip markings produced by plastic deformation at the free surface of Ni3(Al,Hf) specimens deformed in situ under an atomic force microscope at room temperature. The results demonstrated that no great exhaustion of the mobile dislocation density took place at the yield-stress anomaly of this alloy.
