Transmission electron microscopic analysis and computer simulation of the symmetrical superlattice intrinsic stacking faults in slightly deformed polycrystalline Ni3Al at room temperature were presented. The symmetrical superlattice intrinsic stacking faults were important components of the crystal defects in deformed Ni3Al alloys; the formation mechanism of the symmetrical superlattice intrinsic stacking faults could result from the reorientation, dissociation and annihilation of a dipole on {111} plane under an applied shear stress.
