An outline was provided for the use of secondary ion mass spectrometry in the determination of diffusion data in metal oxides. The focus was on the determination of Nb bulk and grain boundary diffusion coefficients in TiO2. Specifically, the diffusion of Nb in TiO2 was assessed. The bulk diffusion coefficient of 93Nb was 1.91 x 10-16m2/s at 1273K.
