An aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopic study was made of misfit-dislocation core structures at non-polar (11•0)ZnO/(1¯1•2)Al2O3 (a-ZnO/r-Al2O3) interfaces. The atomic configuration of the core structure was found to be closely related to the preferred interfacial bonding configuration. A significant number of these misfit dislocations had undergone a core structure modification involving the incorporation of Zn on the Al2O3 side of the dislocation.
