The cathodoluminescence mode in the scanning electron microscope was used to image bands of dislocations in zinc oxide. It was shown that dislocations lying on pyramidal, {10•2}, planes were generated beneath indentations on {00•1} surfaces. Basal plane dislocations lying parallel to the surface were also observed. Indentations on {11•0} prismatic surfaces result in slip on {00•1} and {01•0} planes.
