The kinetics of diffusive mass transfer at 1050 to 1290C were determined by means of laser light-scattering studies of the levelling of surface irregularities. The results for the (100) plane could be described by:

D (cm2/s) = 9.5 x 100 exp[-51(kcal/mol)/RT]

It was suggested that the above activation energy was the sum of an energy of adatom formation and a migration energy.
