An electrolytic method was used to measure the diffusivity of H through 0.0025mm-thick membranes of 5N5-purity material. The samples were well-annealed, as-quenched from 1248K, or aged (348 to 673K, 24h) after quenching. It was concluded that the resultant diffusivities (table 9) were consistent with a simple statistical model in which a fraction of the H atoms saturated traps which involved quenched-in vacancies. However, the mobility was governed mainly by the excess of non-trapped H atoms, which diffused through normal sites in the face-centered cubic lattice.
