A new technique for the determination of H diffusion coefficients in metals described. The technique was based upon evaluating the maximum increase in permeation rate of metal specimens, and furnished data (table 38) on H in pure Fe and alloy steels. Further data for pure Fe could be described by:

16-60:     D (cm2/s) = 6.5 x 10-2 exp[-6.50(kcal/mol)/RT]

15-40:     D (cm2/s) = 6.1 x 10-2 exp[-5.95(kcal/mol)/RT]
