The effect of microstructure upon permeation was studied at room temperature by using electrochemical methods. Transport during charging and effusion was affected by the microstructure and by the H content, and the diffusivity values ranged over some 5 orders of magnitude. During unsteady-state diffusion, the presence of dislocations and interfaces decreased the effective diffusivity to values of between 10-9 and 10-7cm2/s. During steady-state diffusion, the diffusivity attained values of 10-5 to 10-4cm2/s.
