The solubility and diffusivity of H and D in polycrystalline α-phase material were measured at temperatures of between 873 and 1873K. The ratios of the solubility and diffusivity of D to those of H were explained by assuming that H and D in Hf were anharmonic oscillators. The activation energy for the diffusion of H or D was found to be equal to 0.46eV.
