The diffusion coefficient (1.0 x 10-12 to 4.0 x 10-11m2/s) and activation energy (103.7kJ/mol) for tritium in β-LiAl were determined at 699 to 886K. Although the present result for the diffusion coefficient was almost the same as that reported previously, the activation energy was almost twice that (64.9kJ/mol) reported earlier. On the basis of the crystal and defect structures, the present large activation energy suggested that tritium diffuses interstitially and was impeded by an attractive interaction with lithium atoms in lithium sub-lattices.
