The H permeability and diffusivity at 25C were studied during the cathodic polarization of membranes in solution (1N HCl + 10mg/l of SeO2). The effect of the degree of cold-working deformation upon permeation and diffusivity was also studied. The effective diffusivity was 2.0 x 10-8cm2/s. It was suggested that, in order to decrease the tendency of Nb to be embrittled during electrolytic H absorption, low deformations should be avoided during cold working.
