A study was made of the penetration of H into Ni under a 10000atm H2 pressure. The kinetics of Ni hydride formation could be studied by measuring the electrical resistances of 2 to 100μ-thick foils. The time dependence was analyzed by using diffusion kinetics, and the apparent diffusion coefficients at 25C were estimated to be 3.41 x 10-12cm2/s for a 2μ-thick hydride layer and 8.52 x 10-12cm2/s for a 20μ-thick hydride layer.
