An investigation was made of the permeability of D through a Ni cathode under glow-discharge conditions at 500 to 700K. A specially designed apparatus was used which facilitated the controlled injection and detection of D atoms and molecules. The intensity of D flow through the Ni plate depended upon the period during which the latter had been subjected to glow discharge. At relatively low temperatures, the activation energy for permeation was equal to the activation energy for diffusion (9.1kcal/mol).
