An investigation was made of the reaction of H and Pd specimens, of various degrees of purity, by means of structural X-ray diffraction analysis of the Pd specimens after reaction. The results indicated that H penetration into Pd was 30% higher for high-purity zone-refined single crystals than for technical-grade material.
