The H flux, J, through multilayer membranes of Pd and Pd-Al alloy, prepared by internal oxidation, was measured. A plot of 1/J against the thickness of the Pd layers, 2dPd, was linear for a series of 2dPd values. This justified the assumptions made by the model used to derive the relationship between 1/J and 2dPd. The DH for Pd and the alloy could be obtained from the intercepts of the plot using known pH2-H content isotherms. It was concluded that the multilayer technique was an alternative way of obtaining DH for Pd alloys.
