The permeation behavior of Pd-plated membranes was investigated by using gas permeation techniques at temperatures of between 423 and 673K and H pressures of between 100Pa and 3MPa (figure 40). The solubility of H was determined by using a volumetric method at temperatures ranging from 473 to 673K, and pressures ranging from 100Pa to 3MPa. Membranes of V-10at%Ni and V-15at%Ni had permeabilities which were higher (than that of a Pd membrane) by factors of between 6 and 15 and between 2 and 5, respectively. The number of interstitial sites which were blocked by one solute Ni atom was estimated to be 1.8 at 673K and 0.1MPa.
