A study was made of the initial stages of growth of metallic films on NaCl single crystals at 360 to 800C. The activation energy for the surface migration of condensate atoms was evaluated quantitatively during nucleus formation, and was found to be equal to 6.9kcal/mol. It was noted that the Al tended to migrate preferentially in the [111] direction.
