The diffusion coefficients of gold and silver ions were measured using chronopotentiometry at 500 to 700C. At 500 to 550C, the former were higher than the latter. The Au diffusion coefficients fitted an Arrhenius plot:
D(cm2/s) = 1.30 x 10-3exp[-24.9(kJ/mol)/RT
The results were explained in terms of translation and hopping diffusion mechanisms.
