The reduction of Fe, dissolved in Al-refinery melt, was studied by using cyclic voltammetry and chronopotentiometry. The results indicated that the stable ionic species was FeII. The mechanism of FeII/Fe exchange was reversible, and corresponded to the exchange of 2 electrons. The diffusivity of the FeII species was equal to 2.8 x 10-5cm2/s at 750C.
