Samples of the icosahedral phase, Al86Mn14, were prepared by melt spinning, and Pt was introduced by ion implantation. The depth profiles were determined by using Rutherford back-scattering spectrometry. It was found that the diffusivity could be described by:

D (cm2/s) = 3.0 x 10-7 exp[-1.1(eV)/kT]
