The self-diffusivity of 54Mn in the icosahedral quasicrystal was investigated at
723 to 1022K. The concentration versus depth profiles were measured by using an ion-beam sputter-sectioning technique. It was found that the Mn diffusivity could be described by:
D (cm2/s) = 1.1 x 10-6 exp[-31.9(kcal/mol)/RT]
The self-diffusivity of Mn in the quasicrystal was 3 to 4 orders of magnitude lower than that in crystalline Al.
