The impurity diffusion of 111Sn in γ-Fe was studied using radiotracer and serial sectioning techniques at temperatures of between 1197 and 1653K. The results obeyed an Arrhenius behavior and could be described by:

D (cm2/s) = 8.45 x 10-1 exp[-62.3(kcal/mol)/RT]

The above parameters were of the order expected, and anomalous values which had been reported previously were attributed to short-circuit diffusion involving grain boundaries or dislocations.
