The impurity diffusion of 48V was measured in the α and γ phases by using serial sectioning techniques. In both cases, the diffusion of V was faster by a factor of 2 to 3; as compared with Fe self-diffusion. In the γ phase, the diffusion behavior was described by:

D (cm2/s) = 6.2 x 10-1 exp[-65.1(kcal/mol)/RT]

and corresponded to a normal vacancy diffusion mechanism. The data for V in the paramagnetic α-phase was described by:

D (cm2/s) = 1.24 x 102 exp[-65.2(kcal/mol)/RT]
