Heterodiffusion of 65Zn in Mg, Mg-xAl (x = 1.77, 3.9 and 9wt%Al) and AZ91 alloy was studied at 498 to 848K by using serial sectioning and residual activity methods. The concentration and temperature dependence of the Zn bulk diffusion coefficient was described by the relationship:
D(m2/s) = exp[0.1cAl(wt%)-9.16]exp[-125.8(kJ/mol)/RT]
The Zn grain boundary diffusivity P = sδDb obeyed the relationship:
P(m3/s) = 7.2 x 10-15exp[-46(kJ/mol)/RT]
