The speciation and diffusion of sulfur in nominally dry albite melt at 1300 to 1500C was investigated by analyzing glasses formed in piston-cylinder runs using electron microprobe, micro-Raman, infrared-, UV- and visible-light-spectroscopy. In violet-colored albite glass in which some of the sulfur was S2- and S3-, the diffusion coefficient for bulk sulfur diffusion was given by:
D(m2/s) = 14.7 exp[-458.1(kJ/mol)/RT]
