Self-diffusion of S in pyrite was characterized at ∼500 to 725C (∼1bar) by immersing natural specimens in a bath of molten elemental 34S and monitoring the resultant diffusive-exchange profiles using Rutherford back-scattering spectroscopy. The temperature dependence of the S diffusivity conformed to:
D(m2/s) = 1.74 x 10-14exp[-132.1(kJ/mol)/RT]
