An investigation was made of the role played by initial preparation of the system on the diffusion of oxygen ions in YBa2Cu3O6+c superconductors. The asymmetrical next-nearest neighbors Ising model and standard Monte Carlo simulations were used. When only one sub-lattice was initially populated with oxygen ions, the system was in a one-domain state and the diffusion coefficient had, for all temperatures, a minimum when c = 1. When the oxygen ions were initially put on both sub-lattices, two or more domains could form. This led to the appearance of an additional diffusion mechanism and the tracer diffusion coefficient had a maximum at low temperatures and c = 1.
