A method for estimating, via the Monte Carlo simulation, the most often realized diffusion mechanisms in 2D ordered structures was presented. Taking as an example the diffusion of oxygen ions m 123 - YBCO high temperature superconductor several diffusion mechanisms were proposed and it was shown to what extent they depended upon the temperature and concentration of the diffusing particles. The results were compared with those proposed earlier on the basis of energy arguments. Additional trajectories, different to those reported earlier for that system, were also found.
