The well-known analysis in which dislocation pipe diffusivity was determined by means of a grain boundary type analysis of the tail of a tracer concentration depth profile was examined. A Monte Carlo grid method was used to test the analysis. The results showed that the analysis was really satisfactory only when the spacing between the dislocations was roughly twice the diffusion length (Dt)1/2 where D and t were the lattice diffusivity and time, respectively.
