The stacking-fault energy significantly affected the deformation mechanisms of Fe–Mn–Al–Si twinning-induced plasticity steels, and two methods (size of extended nodes, separation of Shockley partials) for its experimental determination by the transmission electron microscopy of dislocations were evaluated for Fe–24.7Mn–2.66Al–2.92wt%Si alloy. Measurement of the partial dislocation separation provided the most reliable results, yielding a stacking-fault energy of about 16mJ/m2.
