The effect of high-energy milling on powders of Fe-Ni (50/50) alloy was evaluated by means of X-ray diffraction. The average micro-strain as a function of milling time (0.5, l or 8h) was deduced from X-ray diffraction data. The displacement and broadening of the peaks were used to estimate the stacking-fault energy, using the method of Reed and Schramm. It was estimated that the stacking-fault energy was 79mJ/m2.
