In an attempt to obtain an estimate of the complex stacking-fault energy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopic observations of a dislocation in TiAl were compared with atomistic calculations of dislocation structures deduced using atomistic potentials. From this comparison, a value of between 470 and 620mJ/m2 was obtained.
