The mechanical strength of monocrystalline ZnSe was investigated at elevated temperatures by means of compressive deformation. The yield stress of ZnSe at 150 to 300C was around 7 to 13MPa, and the material deformed easily even at low temperatures. From the temperature dependence of the yield stress, the activation energy for dislocation motion in the ZnSe was deduced to be 0.5 to 0.7eV. The stacking-fault energy was deduced to be 7 to 9mJ/m2 from the dissociation widths of dislocations.
