Lattice defects in the wurtzite crystal were studied by means of high-resolution electron microscopy of samples which had been pulverized at room temperature. High densities of stacking faults were produced. The dissociation of basal dislocations was observed by using the weak-beam technique. The stacking fault energy was estimated, from the separation of partials, to be equal to 41mJ/m2. The stacking fault energies in wurtzite crystals were related to the c/a ratios of the crystals.
