The multiphase equilibration technique was used to measure the equilibrium angles that developed at the interphase boundaries of a solid-liquid-vapour system after annealing, and the surface and grain-boundary energies of polycrystalline yttria-stabilized zirconia (8mol%Y2O3). The data were determined at 1573 to 1873K. Linear temperature functions were found for the surface energy,

γSV(J/m2) = 1.927 - 0.000428T

and for the grain-boundary energy,

γSS(J/m2) = 1.215 - 0.000358T
