A method was proposed for determining the vacancy formation energy from measurements of the Doppler broadening of annihilation radiation. The S-parameter for trapped positrons, which was required by the analysis, was determined independently by using the positron annihilation age-momentum correlation technique. The method was applied to In, where the vacancy formation energy was difficult to measure by means of conventional Doppler broadening measurements, and a value of 0.48eV was obtained.
