The formation energy of single vacancies in 5N platinum was measured resistometrically in thin wires, quenched exponentially from 650 - 1150C. The quenching rate in helium gas was high enough to retain almost all of the vacancies present in the solid solution. The most probable value of formation energy was 1.31eV.
