The α > β polytypic transformation was studied during ball milling at room temperature. The microstructural evolution was characterized, at the atomic scale, by using high-resolution electron microscopy. The latter observations showed that partial dislocations played an important role in the transformation under the complicated conditions which existed during ball milling.
