The continuing speculation concerning an additional temperature dependence in Black’s equation was considered. Under the assumption that the activation energy which was measured by using Black’s equation should be equal to the energy barrier for atom hopping, evidence was provided for an additional T2-dependence of the failure time. Microscopic modelling provided a definite connection between the macroscopic model behavior and the microscopic parameters of the model. The results were suggested to provide a reliable method for measuring the activation energies for self-diffusion in pure metals.
