The dislocation microstructures of single crystals with a range of compositions within the (Fe,Ni)-Al pseudobinary system were investigated in order to bridge their behaviors in FeAl and NiAl. The initial experiments focussed on the compression-testing of <001>-oriented single crystals with compositions of the form, FexN1-xAl40, where x was equal to 60, 50 or 10at%. Measurements of the yield strength and work-hardening rate were correlated with the overall dislocation morphology, dislocation dissociation-width and the presence of antiphase boundary tubes.
